1. Buffalo Wings--substitute the traditional waistline expander with a delicious soy-based alternative such as Health Is Wealth brand found in the frozen food section. You could eat 3 of these for a skinny 100 calories while gaining fiber and a dose of heart-healthy soy protein. Be careful though as not all "chicken-free brands" are the samesome use hydrogenated oil for unhealthy trans-fat.
2. Nachos--prepare with baked chips such as those offered by Guiltless Gourmet, topped with your favorite salsa or taco sauce and fat-free (or at least low-fat) shredded cheddar cheese. Pop into the oven till the cheese melts and enjoy!
3. Pizza--don't succumb to the fast-food chain pizzas advertised on TV during the game. Easily make your own with a pre-baked whole wheat crust, marinara sauce and a mix of fat-free (or at least low-fat) shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese. For an extra nutritional boost, add broccoli florets or spinach.
4. Chips--No need to down bags of greasy, full-fat chips! Substitute a healthy baked chip that does not use hydrogenated oil or olestra (as many of the national light brands do) like Pop Chips, Baked Lays or Baked Ruffles or Robert's American Gourmet Pirate Booty (a great cheese curls substitute), all with as little as 1-6 grams of fat per serving vs 10-15 for the standard offerings. And yes, you can still have favorite flavors like sour cream and onion, nacho cheese and barbecue.
5. Chicken Nuggets--swap the artery-clogging fast food chain stuff for tasty soy-based offerings by Boca brand, Morningstar Farms or Health Is Wealth found in the frozen food section. Dip in your favorite brand of barbecue sauce, and relax knowing a serving is 175-215 calories including sauce and you are getting some beneficial soy!
