I had the news on right after New Year's a couple of years ago, and there was a segment where various famous people were asked the standard question about their resolutions.  Nothing really caught my attention until I heard someone say "I don't know, eat fewer cheeseburgers?"  It was none other than President Bush.

It's too bad President Bush doesn't know about healthy "NMP" eating, where, like the title of my book says, you can Have Your Cheeseburger And Keep Your Health Too! If he did, he would realize that he could pretty much have all the cheeseburgers he wanted in a healthy, delicious way.

That's the problem.  Most people assume that they have to deny themselves their favorite comfort foods in order to be healthy.  Or they feel they can't ever eat healthy because they love foods like cheeseburgers, BLTs, chicken parmesan, tacos and chicken caesar salad and can't give them up.  In the first case, a person is like a time bomb waiting to go off because they are not eating what they really want--what makes them happy.  In the second case, a person will feel doomed to be overweight, unhealthy and feel like a failure because they "have no willpower".

Relax, you don't need willpower, you just need to know how to give your favorite foods makeovers so they become the healthiest possible versions of their former selves.  It is truly possible to eat all of these foods and more with "NMP" eating.  In fact, your body could get two benefits from making a simple switch like having a non-meat cheeseburger. Not only would you save your body from the unhealthy version of the food you were going to have, many meat and poultry substitute products are made with soy protein, so you may also gain the benefits of adding some soy to your diet in a very simple and delicious way.

So as you can see, healthy eating can really be just a matter of reinventing your favorites in healthier forms.  That's what "NMP" eating is all about.  So that's why I hope my message starts to get out to President Bush and everyone else out there who thinks they have to give up foods like cheeseburgers, or have them less often.  Cheeseburgers can be a delicious and regular part of a healthy diet if eaten the "NMP" way.  So go ahead and put "have a cheeseburger" on your list of things to do this week.  Now doesn't that sound better?
